buying used decor

should we come across some used decor - what should be done to "clean" it. also is there anything to stay away from.

I would:
Soak and scrub in a bleach water bath.
Rinse in fresh water.
Soak in a fresh water bath with at least a double dose of dechlorinator.
Rinse in fresh water.
Let dry in the sun for a couple of hours as sunlight also breaks down chlorine.

Hello rav...

I just put the used stuff in the dishwasher and run a cycle without the soap. The water gets upwards of 180 degrees, more than enough to kill any harmful bacteria.

Just a thought.
