Hey guys I recently bought a bag of 20lb African cichlid substrate. Does anyone recommend it?

If it what I'm thinking of, yes ... IF you want a higher pH. No, if you're going to have community fish.

My ph is already around 8.0 so it's just there for the alkalinity and because it is fine grains of sand

I'd use plain sand instead unless you have evidence your KH is low.
