10 gallon tank
tank kit: $65 (Tank, hood, light, filter, fish net, and a digital thermometer)
gravel: $12
heater: $25
water conditioner: $10
food: $20 (this will last and i figure $5/month afterwards)
driftwood: $10
filter replacements: $12 (6 pack)
bucket and a cup: $3
gravel vac: $10
background: $3
filter-max prefilter: $20 (with replacement sponges)

the whole set up costed me $216 (man i didnt realize i spent so much money on such a small thing) planning to buy freshwater master test kit next week and there is no stand as it sits on a tv stand (i figured this is ok since it is a small tank and tv can weigh about as heavy as a small tank)
the cost of food is $5 / month
the cost of electricity $10 / month
hoping to upgrade to 36 bow front tank with the stand soon which will cost me about $400

5 Gallon Tank
Tank: Free
Water: Free
Substrate: $16.99
Plants: Almost All Free except for a couple, estimate spent on plants is $10.00
Filter: $15.00
Lighting: Fixture free. Bulbs are 2x 15W CFL Spiral Bulbs 2pk at walmart for around $8
Heater: $5
DIY Co2 System: Free.
My heavily planted 5G aquarium cost me about $45-$50. Not bad at all for a such a great tank it is.
My most expensive tank was my 55G and it cost me $175 at walmart for everything I needed. Built my own stand with free wood, got free sand from local river. Most of my tanks are handed down, most equipment comes cheap/free/or left over.
I guess i'm just lucky lol.
