Hello That...

Good idea to cycle your tank with fish. The procedure is very efficient and the fish will be fine provided you test the tank water daily for traces of ammonia and nitrites and change roughly 25 to 30 percent of the tank volume when you have a positive test for these forms of nitrogen.

The fish waste will start the cycling process. The waste dissolves in the water and your tests will show traces of the above toxins. Just change the water and replace it with pure, treated tap water.

Test daily and remove and replace a quarter of the water, but no more. You want to leave some of the ammonia and nitrites in the water, so the bacteria will grow. Eventually, they'll remove the ammonia and nitrites the fish produce. You'll have to remove the nitrates by doing larger water changes, about 50 percent, every couple of weeks once the tank has "settled".
