DIY bio media?

Hi, I was just wondering if anything around the house that could be used as bio media? I ask, because instead of buying media from the store, is there something that I could find that is cheaper (or is already in the house) that I could use? Any suggestions would be great

Thanks!!

Pot scrubbers from the dollar store are popular

Lava rock and pumice are also good options.

Thanks for the replies! I think I might go with the scrubbers, I live right by the dollar store! I might also be able to find some lava rock too. I would imagine that the scrubbers would have alot of surface area for BB.
