Is my heater better located in the center of the tank or the size of the tank? Thanks.

Doesn't matter as long as you have proper circulation in the tank.

I put mine in my sump so that I don't have to look at it.

If you have good water circulation then it really doesn't matter that much till you get to larger tanks.

I put mine either near the intake or output tube, better distribution in my opinion

I'm with Toad, heater next to outlet to the filter.
Not in the flow of the water returning to the tank from the filter as this may have cooled whilst out of the tank and may cause the thermostat in the heater to read a lower reading than that of the tank and raise the tank temp a bit higher. Worse if the filter is in a cold room.
