unexpectedely rec 150 gal, came with 2 filters 404 & 405 fluval, are the 2 needed. It seems they are for 100 gal tank. can I get away with one, run both or get a different filter
 
You'll need to run both for the 150 gallon tank. If you only want to run one filter you will need to get one that is capable of handling that size tank. A lot of hobbyists will run two smaller ones so they get better circulation in the tank. Another bonus is that if one filter fails, you still have one running until you can get the failed one running again.

I agree. Rivercats runs 4 Fluval 400's on her 220. You should be good with your two. Stuff them with sponge, ceramic rings, and polyfill and you'll be set.
