Hello, getting a tank, it 45" long, 14" deep and 20" high, that's about 54 gallons... What's the biggest fish i can keep?

prolly some kinda chiclid or something. POssibly a small sharp. Elephant nose fish are kinda cool too IMO

Biggest single fish or biggest type of fish to be kept in a group?

Also, do you have a particular fish in mind? There are a lot of fish readily available that will grow too big for that tank, like the common pleco and oscars. Any fish that gets larger than about 8" inches will be very uncomfortable in a tank that is 14" deep (I have one, so I know, LOL)

Max size also depends on activity level. I'd bracket Tankgirl's suggestion and say that if it's an active, fast-swimming fish, 6" is good, and if it's slower or narrow-bodied, you may be able to get away with 10".

Have fun with your tank stocking plans, and remember to cycle the tank first!
