I'm going to be setting up either a 30G or a 2nd 55G for a GSP. This isnt going to be a planted tank just rocks and wood and later on maybe some Mangrove when the tank is in its BW phase. Can I start off the Cycle with Aragonite substrate when the tank is in its FW stage on its way to BW?

Thats what I did with my GSP tank. It helped to maintain the ph around 8.0. Also there is no need to change the substrate later. I would also be careful about adding wood to it since I hear that it can lower the ph of the tank.

If you've got a whole tank of aragonite substrate I doubt a few pieces of wood could knock the pH down too far, but it would be wise to keep an eye on it.

OK, I give up, what's a GSP??

Good that will same some hassle later on down the road. BTW do you have any recommendations on where and what kind of Aragonite is the best to start the tank off with?
