I have a 10 gallon with 6 golden barbs and the algae in the tank is starting to get out of control. The tank is not in front of a window either:/. What can I put in with them to take care of the algae?IMG_1347.jpg

You could put snails or shrimp in there to clean it up.

How long are you keeping your lights on?

I’m looking for something that’s not going to be expensive :/ and my local store don’t sell shrimp. And don’t snails overpopulate very quickly?
That could be my problem I do keep the light in for very long periods of time

Nerite snails don't breed in freshwater. You wouldn't need more than two in your size tank. Or 1 mystery snail.

Cut the lights to a time period of 6-8 hours. No more than 8.

You can order cherry shrimp. I'd get probably 6 or better.

you could clean the tank more often
turn down your light cycle

add live plants to soak up nutrients
add snails or livestock that will eat the algae
do an excel or hydrogen peroxide treatment on the algae.

all of these options can be very cheap. adding plants is where your cost might vary alot.

My local pet store can order different fish in but they cost a fortune. I only go there when I know what I want and it’s cheap. One male guppy at that store is $6. But I will try the Nertite snail. Thank you

The tank only has beach sand so wouldn’t live plants die in it?

You would have to use root tab fertilizer or an all in one liquid fertilizer such as Thrive. I use Thrive and it works well.

I ordered some root tabs last week will they do fine on their own?
