I disagree with that, the bacteria eat as much as they can consume and they reproduce. It doesn't matter how much free food there is. A little or a lot there is still more than enough to feed what has grown and they will keep, multiply as long as the N compounds are available. Besides keeping the fish healthy is more important the finish the cycle quickly.
