Everyone on here has been so helpful so far. So we have two small ten gallon tanks for my two kids. They have heat, filtration, bubbles, decor ect. As I’m posting in here, I’m coming to the realization that I think we ended up with too many fish in my sons tank. He has four tetras (1 small glow, 1 long fin glow, and two standard black/grey ones), 2 catfish, a frog, and a dwarf gourami. My daughter tank is new and has the plecco (still small) a very small dwarf gourami, and a tiger barb. I think the current plan is to move the dwarf gouramis together with the plecco and see if the store will take back the tiger barb since it was a mistake he came home anyway... that would leave the 4 tetras, 2 catfish, and the frog. Does this sound okay? I know ideally the frog should probably go on his own but we’ve had him in this tank with all these fish for the better part of a year and he seems very happy and thriving. Any suggestions on a better way to group these fish?

I agree you should return the tiger barb. A single tiger barb will usually harass and fin nip other fish. If in a school of 4+ they usually keep to themselves. I would also see if you can bring the Pleco back. Ten gallon tank is too small for a pleco. Other than that I think you’re fine.

I agree, try to return the tiger barb, however the pleco is the bigger issue here.... plecos produce a very large amount of waste which will foul your water very quickly. Also, the pleco will not grow to its full potential in such a small tank, its growth will be slowed and stunted. Keep in mind you also have the option to upgrade to a larger tank. Perhaps a 55 gal. You can usually pick up used aquariums at your lfs or craigslist is another good place. Used equipment can usually be picked up pretty cheap

Also as an additional issue, is that the Glow fish are really schooling fish regardless if they have a glow gene. Some are long finned and most are short finned. Whether they have glo gene or not they are still a certain species and need a group to school.

They do not school because there are 4 different species which all have the the glo gene. Or if you have 3 differing kinds irregardless of their color or glow features.
