I was wondering how much ammonia I would need to add to start my cycle. It is a 10 gal tank. I have a bottle of Ammonia from Wal-Mart. As far as I can tell it is just full strength. There is nothing saying otherwise. For whatever reason I have had a heck of a time trying to figure the ppm thing out no matter how many websites I read about it.

Also, do I keep adding ammonia during the cycle of just let it go?

Thanks

Do you have a test kit? I added a capful and measured how much ammonia was in the tank after 15 minutes. You do need to keep the ammonia between 2-4 ppm to kickstart the cycle.

You need to test almost everyday and keep it at the level as well. Once you have nitrites you can start dosing half as much.

Thanks Zagz and rich311k,

Yes, I do have a test kit. I went with a capful for now and will test it after a bit.
