How to change filter

Hi! If nitrites are present at all that means the tank isn't fully cycled yet; you're probably in the nitrite phase and nitrites are as toxic to fish as ammonia. There's a link below in my signature called: new tank with fish. It'll guide you through what you have to do but basically test the water daily and do water changes to keep ammonia and nitrite <.25 and nitrate <20 until the tank fully cycles.

Also changing water does not disrupt cycling and your fish need clean water to survive otherwise they are swimming in toxins. SInce your tank is still cycling I wouldn't change any media right now. If you want to add more filtration buy a second filter and run it along with the current one.
