just got my first fish-HELP!!!

Unfortunately, this is going to be much, much more complicated than simply finding food for him. Make sure you do some research on the nitrogen cycle and what is involved in cycling a tank.
Your best bet to take care of your new friend is to go out and buy him a new tank. They can be picked up for cheap at most chain stores including Walmart. Goldfish are notoriously messy fish and a 20 gallon tank is the minimum size recommended for one (+10 for each additional fish).
IMO, giving away fish at carnivals is a horrible practice and has actually been banned in some countries. Just do some research on cycling a tank, provide him a suitable sized home, change water as often as needed to keep toxin levels as low as possible and you can give the poor fish a good home for years to come

lol thats how i got started on this crazy ride. Daughter won four feeder/gold fish at fair...RIP. I'm better informed now and that wont happen again. follow eco's advice and you will have better luck than i did
