More filtration?

So I have a 28 gal bow front with a marine land bio wheel filter. The filter I run a bag of bio max, sponge, polishing pad and an carbon cartridge plus the attached bio wheel. I still seem to have lots of debris that isn't being filtered. Not because I don't think the filter is good enough mechanically, but because I don't think the water flower or current is good enough to push things to the filter. Every time I gravel vacuum and change 5 gal of the water weekly when adding the new water I just get a huge bloom of debris. The ammonia spike hasn't been a problem. But it's the debris that bugs me. I was wondering what the best course of action to keep debris from settling and getting pushed to the filter would be adding air stones or a power head of some sort. Click image for larger version

That's kind of the nature of gravel. It just traps debris and there's not really a whole lit you can do about it other than switching over to sand. You could try adding more flow but that isn't really going to solve the problem.
