My canister filter just stopped working, and I need to get something quick.

What would be a good filter for a 75g freshwater tank, with no plants and just community fish? Preferably something quiet, but I'm not really in the position to be selective right now.

TIA!

Rena XP3 or Fluval 404 should do the job for a 75, if I recall. Eheims are great if you can afford one. If you have to go with HOBs, grab 2 Emperor 400s or 2 Aquaclear 300s (or 500s).

Remember, to avoid a cycle you need to either float the filter media from your old canister in the tank, or put the old media in your new filter if it will fit. Keep the media wet! Leave the old media in your tank for a couple of weeks. Test your water every day (with a liquid reagent kit) to check for a mini cycle, and be prepared to change water as necessary. Good luck.

If it's in your budget, step up to the Eheim Professionel Series. I've heard nothing but the best about those. However, I personally am not on an Eheim budget, LOL!
