My goldfish is pretty big... about 6 inches... and I wanna move him to a bigger tank...

Is netting really the best way to move him...? I'm so worried about bending his fins the wrong way or something.... could I move in in a container, with some of his old water, then just submerge the container in the new tank...?

I'd just use an appropriately sized net and gently scoop him up. You can try and scoop from the head so that the fins will lay back towards his tail naturally. Their fins are pretty tough. They will squirm and flop around for a bit too. I think he will be ok. When you put him in the new water just lower the net in and let him find his way out. You may have to shake the net a little and back it off him, but they usually find their way out pretty quick.
