Aquarium Advice Activist
I have purchased a 29Gallon Tank with a Penguin 200 Filter with a Bio-Wheel. It has a 20W fluorescent Light but the bulb only says 17W which I will need to upgrade as I would like to have Live Plants in the future. Here is what I am planning on doing.
I want to use a Black substrate, can't decide between gravel and Sand.
I want to use 1-2 pieces of real wood and a variety of plastic plants.
The fish I plan on having
4 Serpae Tetras to begin
6 Tiger Barbs
# Green Barbs
1-2 Small Cats (not sure which type yet)
1 Rainbow Shark
Clown Loaches
I would also like to add some platies like the Mickey Mouse type but not sure how they would be with the Tiger Barbs
I want to have an active community of fish but without any bullies, I know the Tiger Barbs can be fin nippers so I plan on having a group of them so they can amuse each other and they will leave the others alone (I hope)
So, I have read tonnes about cycling and there are a surprising amount of contradictions regarding the whole process so I plan to set up and have my tank run for a week and then will bring the water in to the lfs to be tested. After this I plan to add the serpae Tetras. I will then gradually add the rest of the fish in the coming months, after several months of a happy tank I plan on upgrading my lights and adding some live plants.
I would appreciate any tips or advice on my approach.
Thanks
