Hi, I'm finally a sophmore in college and with that being said, I will be living in an apartment by my own and I really wanted a companion and thought fish would be a great idea. I have previous experience owning a 20 gallon aquarium back home, but this will be the first planted aquarium.
I was considering 5 gallon aquarium for a betta fish and was wondering if you guys have any plant suggestions for 5 gallon betta aquarium and types of substrates. Please let me know

I usually have Java Fern lately but was considering Anubias on a rock next time it comes up for auction. Also little dirted pots of plants (eg water sprite) have done well if after something a little more involved.

Mainly I think don't get a high-powered light or get a dimmable led as these tanks are so shallow and don't need much light.
