Yesterday when I got started I dosed to 4ppm ammonia and just now checking it was .5ppm I dosed it back to 4ppm. Is that normal? Do the plants really take that much??? Oh and nitrite is still 0

If the ammo dropped but the nitrite didn't rise, then yeah, the plants used it up. But we need more info, what plants do you have and how many, is this tank new, any fish, etc.?

Also, how long did you wait after adding the ammo before testing?

No fish and I waited about 30 minutes after I add the ammo to test just make sure it was all filtered through the tank The tank is new I set it up on Friday nitrites were 0
The plants are
3 amazon swords
5 wisteria tiny
1 java fern
5 green ludwigia cuttings

Here is a pic from this morning

It's unlikely that those plants would use that much ammonia under your light.

How much ammonia did you add to the tank?

Did you use a syringe to add the ammonia / take the test water?

Test the water again, if it is less than one then add 3 more ppm of ammonia, and test 3 hours later. Than test 12 hours after that.
