Nutrients question

I was just wondering what each nutrient (ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, etc.) is an indicator of in a tank. What causes each one to rise/fall, which ones are bad to have at high/low levels, yadda yadda....

Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated
Just always

Basically any thing high (nitrite, nitrate, and ammonia) is bad.

You always want ammonia and nitrite to be at 0 ppm.

You want your nitrate to be no greater than 20 ppm, however 0 ppm would be even better.

Ammonia is caused from a build up of organic material decaying into the water, and this is also bad because it can lead to fungus in your aquarium.

Read the stickies and the articles on cycling under "articles" at the top of the page. They are very good.
