Should I be concerned about an 8.4 ph during fish less cycle? Tap ph is 7.4.

No, that will be fine for bb. Cycling tends to lower ph / kh so this gives more buffer. It's only when the ph gets to 6 or 6.5 the bb slow down.

Rocks with lime and seashells will raise pH And Kh. If there are lots of them it can be considerable. Unless you are going to keep African cichlids, most people avoid shells because of this. OS.
