Hello all! I have a 29 gallon tank with one mean little cichlid in it right now. I'm getting a larger tank soon and a few more cichlids. I know they need lots of hiding spots and I'm looking at some thing online. Now I have a few things already but they either started flaking or smelling funky so I removed them from the tank, changed the water, ect. I was rather fond of one of them though, a replica mangrove root. It had holes in the bottom roots and that seemed to be the source of the funky smell. I was thinking of plugging the holes with clay and coating it with resin so I could use it again. I cant seem to find much info on aquarium safe resin or if it's even something I should do. Any insight or experience would be welcome!! Thanks!

The water is trapped inside and because of that it turns rotten. No flow.

You could fill it with tiny rock / coarse sand and plug with aquarium safe silicone.
