Hello everyone. I'm new to the tank! I have cycled 30 gallon freshwater with a cascade 700 filter, a powerhead with air tubing, a black trash bag makes a great background, and just a couple of live plants. I purchased a small red tailed black shark, 10 neons and 4 platys. Who else would be good tank mates and how many?

Some plecs could be a nice addition, i'd recommend pitbull plecs as they stay quite small which is ideal for your size tank and they are nice energetic little fish. Just be sure to buy some algae pellets to feed them with if you don't have much in the tank.

Also I'd keep an eye on your shark as they are very territorial and can be quite nippy, especially once full grown.

I think you have enough space for the shark, but I'd stay away from most other bottom dwellers. Maybe some khuli loaches. My pictus cat chases all other fish away from his cave, but never seemed to mind any khulis.

Look at 3-4 hatchetfish. They stay at the top of your tank.
