sand in filter?

I'm starting a new 55 gallon and am in the process of putting play sand in the bottom. If I go ahead anf start the filter will the sand go up into and get caught on the cartridge? Or will it help cycle better? Or should I just wait until I'm done putting the sand in and let it sink to the bottom before turning on the filter?

definitely wait. let it all get settled, then turn on the filter. And, make sure your intake isn't very close to the bottom, as play sand is very fine and can get sucked in easily.
