Hey guys, I am planning to get a 20 gallon high tank soon. I don't have a fish stand in my house, but I have a bookcase that seems pretty strong. Would that hold up a 225 lb tank?

I personally wouldn't just because it's made of particle board. A 20g tank will weigh about 175 pounds just filled with water. Add in your substrate, decorations, and equipment and it will weigh well over 200 pounds.

I agree. Particle board will bow over time from the weight.

As a woodworker I wouldn't trust it. Particle board is really weak and even the smallest amount of water can make it swell and bow even more. Your going to want plywood at the least. Mine has solid wood but as I said I have accesses to a full woodworking shop
