Hi guys! Just posted in the welcome forum, so this is my official first "question" post. 
I'm buying a 40 gallon tank/stand combo today, one of those unfinished pine stand jobs that I'm going to gussy up a bit. But I've been wondering - will any tank stand work for any smaller-sized tank? Obviously the ones with the "frame" top would have to support a tank properly, but what about the solid-top stands? For example, could I put a 28 gallon tank on a 55 gallon solid-top stand? Or would the weight distribution be somehow wonky? Would some work where others wouldn't, and how could I judge that? I've been spending too much time on craigslist and it's got me wondering about my options for future tanks...
