What are some good tankmates (hopefully colorful) tankmates for senegal bichirs.

thats a tough question.. thats a pretty big nocturnal carnivore 10-13 inches.. Id be afraid the thing would attack big fish at night.. 8O

Highly it would do that, since he is quite timid.

According to LiveAquaria they are very passive towards big fish.

how big does its mouth get at full size.. I would get fish that were bigger than that..

I have 2 senegals that are 6" long, they have never even glanced at another fish untill today. One of them took out a 1" Tiger Barb (just added today), he couldn't swallow it so he spit it back out but the Tiger Barb was already dead. He does not attempt anything on the two 4" Guarami's or two 2.5" Rosey Barbs that have shared the tank with him for about 4 months.

To add to this....most mid-sized African cichlids...frontosa go well, too.
