I'm looking for opinions on whether I can get tetras with a stable pH of 8? Everything I've read says that they need a more acidic environment. Yet the pH at the store is also close to 8 and they say it doesn't matter. I really don't want to get into livebearers even tho I know this may be my only option with my ph. Any opinions wecome! Tank is 10 gallons, btw, and they would be the only inhabitants.

Welcome to AA!!!!!
I have found that I would rather have a steady PH then trying to use chemicals to lower it. I have kept neon tetra's at a ph of 7.8 and had no trouble. Others will correct me, but as long as your PH is stable, you should be ok.

I hope I don't have 3 posts show up. i keep trying to post my thanks to you both but it doesn't seem to be working. One last try- thank you both, this is very good news for me.

I've never had any luck with neons either, regardless of pH, lol.

I keep other species of tetras with no issues, though, and I believe our pH is around 8.0 here.
