Trying to help a mate out

My friend is setting up her 60 litre (15gallon) tank, but she's a total beginner to fish keeping and doesn't know what she wants. I've explained about the cycling and that she has to be careful with fish sizes etc. She's pretty much got her heart set on just having 2 fish in the tank, a pair, but doesn't know what.

Since I'm nowhere near an expert I'm stuck for ideas on what to suggest, was hoping some of you would be able to help out. The only criteria I have is "a really nice looking pair".

Obviously since she's a beginner it would be preferable that they're quite hardy.

A pair of shell dwellers would work.
Or a pair of platy.
Or maybe a dwarf gourami pair.
