What fish for a brand new 60gal tank

Just got a great deal on a 60gal tank. Bought it cause i couldnt pass it up.
It will be about a month until i have it all ip and running so i guess i have a while to think about which fish to load it with.
Im going to stay away from anything real big. Had my experience with fish outgrowing my tanks in the past. So no oscars, dempseys, angel fish, discus, etc...

Its a 60 gal tank with:

Cascade 700 canister filter
Aqeon quiet flow 50 HOB
Marineland DoubleBrite LED bar
80# tahitian moons sand
Gonna cut a plastic crate and line the bottom glass with it

Wondering about painting the back glass a dark blue or black

As far as decor and fish, im up in the air.

I love african cichlids! Had em in the past and think i may go that direction again.

Any thoughts/criticisms/etc are welcome!
