Hi everyone! I'm new to the site.

I am in the process of switching over from a peacock cichlid tank to a discus tank. I have bought some driftwood. Boiled it, cleaned it, ect.. I was told it was mopani? But I am unsure as the tag on the wood didn't say what type it was. The issue I am having is, its growing a whitish slimy coat. It also smells like its rotting but, only on the end parts. What should I do about this? Is there any way to finish this wood?

Thanks!

I am attaching pictures

It's tough to tell by the pic. Does it sink right away? Mopani and Malaysian sink while other DW LFS's sell are more for reptile tanks.

A whitish slime like coating is normal on some DW, my Mopani developed it after a week submerged. Harmless to fish and some even snack on it, my RTS had a field day.

Thanks for the replies.
It did not sink right away. I had to boil it to get it to sink. Thanks for the info on the slime.
