As for water changing, what I do when putting fresh treated water into the tank is I put the hose from what I assume is a python (big plastic oval tube with a consetina(sp?) with a non-return valve at one end connected to the hose?) removed from the main part, then I syphon the water from the 2L bottles I use to fill tanks with, and hold it up like a hospital IV drip thing to make it go in the tank faster...
