Am I just being paranoid or is this a warning sign ???

I noticed today that my Maroon Clown was hiding out in his host (The filter system ) a lot more than usual. He fed well but stayed close to home all the time, returning back behind the filter inlet pipe after each bite. I wasn't too concerned but then I started to have a closer look and I think I can see what looks like some white spots. I may well be just geting paranoid here but I'd really appreciate if you guys could take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks so much.

Thanks for the encouragement - I hope you're right !

The water chems looked great last time I checked a couple of days back - Ammonia and Nitrite both at 0 and Nitrate about 10-15. There are no other fish in the tank (thankfully right now !! ), just some snails and live rock. Maybe I'm more stressed than Eric ! (That's the clown's name )

I'll run another batch of tests right now ....

Test results look good :

Ammonia : 0
Nitrite : 0
PH : 8.3
Nitrate : 10 (a slight drop from a couple of days ago )

I don't think this has anything to do with it but I have noticed since I added new lights and a much tighter fitting cover last weekend that the temperature is now topping out at about 78.5 whereas previously it would not go above 77.3. It would tend to fluctuate between 76.5 and 77.3. I just now turned down the heater's thermostat a very slight amount in an attempt to get it back down a little but I wonder if the temp increase is due to the lights (2x65W PC 10,000K and 2x65W PC Actinic about 6-8 inches above the water surface ) and/or the tight glass covers. There is now just small gaps where the filter hoses and skimmer enter at one end of the tank. Is that bad for O2 or heat control ???

thanks again .....

i would say that it is a combo of the tighter fighting which is more insulating, what type of lights did you have before and how long ago did you change them if you noticed a change in the clown about the same time the lights were changed it could just be that he is spoked due to the brightness.

The previous lighting was just a 40W 50/50 NO tube. The lights were added last Sunday and the clown has not seemed to mind the extra light. In fact he seemed to be a little more lively with the new lights.... I've been thinking about making a series of small holes in the cutout sections at the back of the glass cover to help let some of the heat out. I've read in many places that it's important to have a stable temperature but I'd love to know what that really means - +-1 Degree +-.5 degrees ??

Anyway, I guess I should start a seperate topic on that. I just today got enough equipment to set up a QT which I will do over the next day or two. Hopefully Eric will not be the first inhabitant !! Thanks for the advice xxmoorishmanxx. Have some Kudos !!!
