Anenome caught in ph

My anenome got caught in one of my ph and lost like 10 of his tentacles he seems fine i put him in my qt and he looks to be perking right back up can someone give me some input on this should i get rid of him sorry i am not that experienced with inverts
 
1) How much does the sponge decrease the flow of say a Maxi-Jet 1200?

2) Do they also act as a mechanical filtration that has needs to be cleaned regularly to avoid Nitrate build up?

Not sure about how much it decreases the flow, but definitely a big fat YES on your second question.
