Bubbles on sponge

Looks kinda like hair algae in the pic and not really a sponge (? ).. I know hair algea releases air bubbles like that every once in a while..
 
That def looks more like a sponge... but the flow must not be very good for it because it is covered with algae. First pic looks like there isn't even a sponge under it at all. I seem to recall a "what is this" pic of this sponge before it got covered, am I right about this?
 
You are correct Sniperhank. It's the same one. I had moved it to get less light. I guess I cut off it's flow too. I moved it again this morning and tried to gently blow off some of the gunk with a spot feeder. Im afraid touching it directly may hurt it. Jeez, this hobby can be so confusing. Lol Hopefully it can clear up. Thank you
