I have been away from my tank for about a week. Last night I came home and found this green, stringy, slimy stuff growing on the sand and glass. It isn't hair algae, looking more like cyano than anything else, but I have never heard of green cyano. My pics arent very clear but I think you can see what I am talking about.

Any help would be appreciated.

the next question would be how to get rid of it.

thanks Fort... I learned something new today...

I vacuumed up most of the strands along with a sizeable amount of greenish sand clumps. I am treating this as a green cyano, which seems likely. I also found that my skimmer had been unplugged the whole week. I think I forgot to plug it in when I cleaned the cup. It is running now. Hopefully that will take care of this.

Excellent. That could certainly lead to an outbreak. Hopefully this clears it up!
