Okay well RIP to my new a. cerealis. I was lucky enough to have fragged the heck out of it before it went. My question is the ID of the illness/problem. The acropora turned white from base up, however it took place over several days so slow in fact that I mistook it for bleching even up to last night. It was this morning when I smelled the putrid stink of dead coral that I realized it wasn't coming back. So, here is what I had,

1.) bottom up bleaching took 3 days to consume 50% of a 5" colony
2.) heavy mucus looking coat on all the effected stems
3.) horrible "wharf after a cleaned catch" smell.

Could be seveal things, the catch phrase is STN (s=slow), tends to start from the base up and is common in stressed specimens.

Well thats my last dance with wild caught corals that are sensitive. Im 2nd gen TR minimum from now on. More costly and harder to find, but you couldn't kill my ORA Acros with a surface to air missle :) thanks Kevin, take care.
