Clam Shell Broken?

Can someone help explain why my clam looks like this. It has fallen off rock many times by snails so maybe it broke apart.

Are you talking about the gap where there’s flesh? That’s normal. The clam should put down byssal threads so it getting knocked off by snails isn’t a good thing.

Ok thanks that makes me feels better. But I don't think he has had enough time to ever put his foot down on the rocks before the snails push him over. I have tried multiple places and he is very happy in all of them. My snails are just a little to big. I think I will get smaller ones.

Small clams are difficult to keep. Snails can be bulldozers and won’t help the matter. I’d suggest finding larger clams. It’ll be hardier.
