I woke up thismorning and my clown had passed. I just transfurred him from a 20 gallon to a 75 gallon. this is what i have.

1.5 inch sand bed
15 pounds of fiji lr
had 1 clown
about 60 watts of lighting

and my water tested at...
Temp.=80
nitrate=10
Nitrite = 0
PH =8.1
Ammonia=less than .25

Does anyone Know what could of caused my favorite fish to die?
and does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next?
i know i need more lr but What fish and inverts too add?
going to store in about 15 minutes so quick help would be greatly appretated

TIA
:cry:

How did you acclimate the fish to the new tank? Did you just toss him in? How old is the tank. With amm present is it still in the cycle?

i acclimated him for 1 hour and the tanks water was the same. the only difference between the two was 1 degree!!! the tank is about 3 weeks old and the ammonia is just from him dieing. The day before the ammonia was 0!!!

What has been your process for setting up the 75g tank and what is in that tank now? Sounds possibly that the 75g was not ready for fish yet :(

RO water
day later salt
3 days later sand from old tank and new sand
5 days later lr
3 days after the fish

Were you trying to cycle with the clown. It is possible it just couldn't take it, look at the articles for the fishless cycle.

no other inerts and i had a mini cycle. The ammonia did not spike more than .25 when i first added the fish.

What was the PH difference between the 2 tanks. PH shock can kill very fast.
