Dark spot on clown?

My male o. clown recently has a black spot on his tail in the picture below. I woke up one day and it was on there. Any idea what it could be? It definitely is not a birth mark. It just was there one day

It does look to be just coloring IMO.
The spot does not look infected or tattered at all?

No doesn't look that bad. Looks like a perfect circle on the tail. It was not there the whole fishes life which is about a 2 years now. Last week I woke up before work and saw it on its tail. Really bizarre...

Probably just the pattern changing with new growth. Kinda like how a puppy's pattern changes as it goes into adulthood. I know you said you just woke up and it was there but it probably just started out really faded so you didn't notice
