Does this coral look ok?

I got it about a week ago but I don't like the way that bottom part is looking and helpfull ideas ?

Should I leave it alone or take away the affected area

Soft corals will deflate when they are stressed. Did you cut that area off or is it doing that on its own? If it is falling apart like that on its own, I would cut that area off immediately and see if the situation improves.
Have you seen anything bothering it? The aiptasia behind it would be a good candidate if it was facing the other direction.

What should I use to remove the bad area ?

A sharp knife or scissors will work to cut that area off. And that is a background with something that looks like aiptasia on it? Lucky!

How far back past the bad area should I go

Just snip around it. No need to cut off all the good tissue, just enough to ensure whatever the issue is that it is removed completely.
