I just put this feather duster in the aquarium a couple days ago... everything was great... however I noticed that the last 2in of the end of the featerduster tube looked like it was rotting and some hermit crabs were eating it.

I'm totally new to this so assumed this was very bad and attempted to move the feather duster. However when I went to move it the middle of it seemed to be stuck to the LR. So I pulled a bit, seems that I pulled and then I felt the tube pull out...

What I believe is that the feather duster abandoned the last 2in of his tube and then went under/in the LR - So i was actually pulling him out!!!

I felt so bad and thought maybe I really hurt him... Took about an hour before he came back out...

Now everything seems fine.

Is this normal activity for a feather duster? should I just let the crabs pick on the portion of the tube he isn't using? Should I cut that portion of the tube off and take out of the tank?

I feel terrible about this... hope I didn't hurt the fellow!
