hermits being found dead

I have found two hermit dead over the last 8 or ten days out of they're shell and looking beat up. What could cause this? I have two clowns , a manderin , had seven hermits and seven snails, nine corals and all in a 28 gallon nano cube cf. Tanks been running about four months and every thing else seems to be doing good. Fish ok and coral frags spreading like crazy coraline growing good. Are these crabs signs of a crash in the brewing?

Are you sure they haven't just molted and you are seeing the old parts?

You will see their old legs and what looks like clear skin. When they molt they actually pull out of their old body and leave it as a defense mech. Shrimp do the same thing. It is how they all grow.
