I need help with my tank.

I have a 55gal salt water it has been set up for over 4 months now i just put fish in it a little over a week ago all my water levels were great then 2 days ago 2 dead fish so i take them back to the store have my water levels checked everything is great they say it was ick from the dory fish so i buy some coppersafe for the remaining 2 fish 1 another dory fish i know has it looking sick the other a firefish looks fine. I do have a protein skimmer but it has yet to work for me ive had it well over a month played with it nothing. Since 4 days ago my tank has looked dirtier and dirtier ive cleaned off the glass but the sand and rocks were looking gross now after 2 days and 2 dead fish i have cyno i think it comes off ive taken the live rock out and scrubbed it. I was not using filtered water till my 2 dead fish i did a 25% water change with filtered water. Salt is good. Not sure what lights i have. Please any help appreciated.

How do you acclimate new fish? From the info you have given I assume you don't quarantine new livestock - this is always a good thing to do in saltwater. Just so you know, the dory fish. ( blue tang) is too big for your 55g anyways. For a new system stock slowly, one fish at a time with a few weeks in between. Definitely buy your own good quality liquid test kits so you can monitor your own water.

They were all put in at once nothing was in the tank before them. The tang is smaller than a 50cent piece i gave them a day to acclimate but they were all doing great for almost 2 weeks i don't understand why out of the blue they would die and my whole tank has gone down hill after i added fish. Should i have just done coals to start?

No I mean how did you acclimate them to the tank? Drip method? Adding more than one fish at a time (especially in a new tank) can be problematic - try one at a time and wait a few weeks in between. It doesn't mater that the tang is small, they need at least a 6ft tank to swim around in regardless of size now. Next time choose a fish suitable to your tank - use liveaquaria for selections and check the minimum tank size...
