my flame scallop has left is shell and buried itself under the sand

Hi, my flame scallop has left is shell and buried itself under the sand, I only knew this because I saw is red tentacles poking through the sand, also, it seems like it's in another location in the tank as well??? Also the shell has got a weird thing growing on the side of it (see photo). What's going on?!?!

Scallops don't abandon their shells. More than likely it was dying and your clean up crew cleaned up the mess. These guys have an abysmal life in our aquariums, always dying off in ~6 months as it takes this long for them to starve to death.
