Mysterious fish death...

Ok this isnt SW related but I had a african die today. His death was odd to me. I have only lost 2 fish in this tank over the 2 years of having it (one got picked on, and this one). He would never eat. He would come to the top like he was hungry but then would not eat. It also looked like the back half of his body was paralized. Behind his gills looked like they were bleeding. I dunno whats going on Anyone know what happened to him?
