ccC Do you think the RO/DI water will take care of all of my problems. That the tap water is where the nutrients that the algae is feeding on is coming from? If so out of curiosity why would this not start until a year later? Just odd.

I like those filters are there any real big differences between the two?

I can't say it's a cure all, but it will definitely be an improvement over using tap water. Using RO/DI water plus running the phosphate reactor will do alot in improving your water quality.
It just might have taken this long for everything that's in the tap water to finally reach levels where you are seeing an affect.
The main difference between the 2 filters is 1 has a storage tank with a spigot so you can drink the RO and have a seperate RO/DI out line for your tank. That's what I have. The other has 2 DI carts but no storage tank.
