Quarantine Tank

I was wondering how important a quarantine tank is, what is involved in setting it up, should I treat it with copper, do I need any fish in it constantly?

Also should I use it to treat my new fish prior to acclimating them into my main tank or would the consistent moving stress them out?

As far as how important they are, I suppose it get down to personal preference. But take a look at some of the recent "ich" threads here, and I think you'll see the importance of keeping disease and parasites out of your display tank.

Are you suggesting that the fish make a stop in the quarantine tank prior to going into the display tank? I was always concerned with the frequent acclimation process.

That's what goes on in my house. When you consider what the fish has been through just to get to your house, a month-long stay in a QT isn't that big of a deal.

I don't do any medication unless the fish shows some sign of disease, but I know others dose dewormers, etc as standard practice.
